William Moorcroft Liberty & Co Forget Me Not and Rose Pattern Art Pottery Bowl

About the Item

A stylish art pottery bowl made for Liberty & Co decorated with tube lined Forget Me Not’s and Rose’s forming garlands around the body of the bowl by William Moorcroft (British, 1872-1945) and dating from around 1913. William Moorcroft started out as a designer before becoming director of the art pottery department at James MacIntyre & Co at Burslem in Staffordshire. In 1913 he set up a factory at Cobridge with the backing of Liberty & Co of London. His floral designs were often compared to the work of William Morris and other Arts & Crafts designers and this bowl is an exceptional example of that work. Decorated with large pink roses and delicate Forget Me Not’s the vase is decorated with grouped arrangements set between hanging garlands. Decorated in a tube lined design in blues and pinks on a cream colored ground. The bowl has printed MADE FOR LIBERTY & CO mark to the base along with an incised signature mark for William Moorcroft. In good condition.
