Midcentury Floor Lamp PH 80 by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen

About the Item

The PH 80 floor lamp, a design that embodies the ingenuity and aesthetics of Poul Henningsen. Created as a tribute for what would have been his 80th birthday in 1974, this lamp is a posthumous homage to Henningsen's contribution to lighting design, produced by the renowned Danish company, Louis Poulsen. The lamp is characterized by its striking use of color and material contrast. The base is a deep black chrome, providing a solid and elegant foundation that grounds the piece. Rising from the base is a slender chrome pole, reflective and sleek, leading the eye upward to the lamp's most distinctive feature: its shade. The shade consists of a tiered composition, featuring layers of white and red on black acrylic, which work in harmony to diffuse light softly and evenly. The topmost layer is white, glowing with the light source beneath it, while the red hue subtly warms the light, casting a cozy ambiance in the room. The black layer adds a visual anchor that ties back to the base. The PH 80's design is not only a testament to Henningsen's philosophy of creating glare-free and evenly distributed light but also to his love of form and function blending seamlessly. This floor lamp is iconic, not just for its historical significance but also for its timeless design that continues to resonate in contemporary interiors. It's more than a source of light; it's a piece of history, illuminating the space with the legacy of one of Denmark's most influential designers.
