Set of Six French Mid-Century Modern Dining Chairs

About the Item

Set of six original French Modernist dining chairs featuring an open airy designed frame. Tall backs with rounded vertical post and horizontal slats create a dramatic and aesthetic negative space between the wood top and the cushioned seat. The chairs are streamline in overall shape. All chair frames were refinished in a medium toned, warm brown color. The original vintage cushion seats are upholstered in beige naugahyde. They have wear and speckles of dirt in the crevices. The seats are removable for re-upholstery. Can be used as side chairs, office chairs in a Brooklyn loft, French Modern, Moderne, Italian design, Industrial, Cubism, or Art Deco setting.

Condition:

Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Refinished in the past and in very good condition. Barely discernible scratches or imperfections here or there, commensurate with age. The seats are quite presentable but original and have some dirt in the crevices and thus could use reupholstery.

A beautiful set of six original French Art Deco tall back blonde wood and nickeled bronze dining chairs, attributed to Rene Prou. Tall elegant backs with curvilinear top crest and shield shape lower backrest, featuring elegant sculptural cabriole front legs and tapered splay back legs. An inset nickeled bronze side bar flanks and accents the back rest, granting this chair a very unusual and unique style. These chairs are skillfully designed, well crafted and of solid construction. The cushion seats and backs in desert taupe/ mauve color naugahyde upholstery are in good vintage condition but are original and of the period.
