This exquisite Spectra Fine Jewelry Colombian Emerald Demi Parure Suite, made in the Contemporary era, circa 2010s, is comprised of two related yet distinctive piece, featuring a bib necklace with nine pendants and equally dramatic drop earrings. The spectacular pieces are crafted in platinum and 18K yellow gold featuring 38 emeralds with an estimated total weight of 101.63 carats and diamonds with an estimated total weight of 132.11 carats. Each piece displays a lovely, stylized nature motif of pear-shape emeralds surrounded in wreathlike diamond halos. The 32 emeralds with an estimated total weight of 92.03 carats in the necklace are accompanied by report no. GRS2021-026533 dated 11 February 2021 from Gemresearch Swisslab (GRS) stating that they are vividly saturated “Muzo Green” natural beryl type emeralds of Colombian origin with minor to moderate clarity enhancement.
Regardless of origin, perhaps 99% of all cut emeralds on the market have some sort of enhancement for clarity. The GIA offers more context for this stating, “Due to their growth conditions in nature and recovery methods, most emeralds contain surface reaching features. For this reason, clarity enhancement is a common trade practice.” A Muzo emerald is an exclusive variety of emerald sourced from the Muzo emerald mine in Colombia, which is the leading producer of excellent quality emerald gemstones the world over. The Muzo mines are counted amongst the oldest sources of emeralds known, coveted by Mughal emperors, Renaissance princes, and Ottoman sultans, and are still one of the richest resources of emerald.
Muzo emeralds, prized for their particular quality and color like the featured stones in this necklace belong to the beryl mineral family and bear a characteristic silky, rich green hue due to the presence of chromium and vanadium. The GRS report evaluates that the fine emeralds featured in the necklace are reminiscent in hue of the varieties displaying the legendary colors found in the world renowned Muzo mines. They are formally described as “Muzo Green” and commonly known in the trade as “Old Mine” emeralds. To clarify, even though this suite’s emeralds don’t have the Muzo origin, they are certified in displaying the typical color of the emeralds of that mine.
Three different cuts of diamonds with an estimated weight of 117.77 carats total comprise this regal bib necklace. Mounted in platinum, there are 440 round white diamonds with an estimated total weight of 51.66 carats, 152 marquise white diamonds with an estimated total weight of 44.83 carats, and 61 pear white diamonds with an estimated total weight of 21.28 carats. The way the diamonds are grouped amplifies the collective sparkle of the presentation in a most dramatic way. Setting various shapes and cuts of diamonds at multiple angles and within different planes creates a magnificent light show of scintillation and fire.
The 9 spectacular pendants are each comprised of two wreathed emeralds, their pear shapes pointing upwards in an elegant and majestic manner. Eight smaller motifs comprised of round, marquise, and pear shape diamonds echo the sweet floral details established in the halo-wreaths. The marquise diamonds soften each halo with a flower-like freshness and add dramatic sparkle at the same time.
The drop earrings amplify the pendants of the bib necklace, with not two, but three pear-shape emeralds pointing upwards, likewise surrounded in wreathlike diamond halos. These stunning drops feature 6 emeralds with an estimated total weight of 9.60 carats mounted in 18K yellow gold, 6 pear-shape white diamonds with an estimated total weight of 2.60 carats, 12 marquise white diamonds with an estimated total weight of 4.54 carats, and 58 round white diamonds with an estimated total weight of 7.20 carats, all mounted in platinum. The total diamond weight in the pierced earrings with French clips is 14.34 carats. Imagine entering a room wearing this demi parure suite.
