1990s Christian Lacroix Silk Linen Jacket

This incredible Vintage Thierry Mugler jacket walked the runway in Fall 1995 collection and is classic Mugler, with the nipped waist, offset by the sculptural peplum details at the hips, creating that sexy, exaggerated hourglass shape Thierry Mugler is so known for. Thierry Mugler and his work have been the subject of many a museum retrospective for a reason: he is responsible for defining the fashion landscape of the late 1980s and early 1990s, with his unabashedly feminine, sensual, borderline-campy perspective. Note how the bodice is built out like a corset, with bra cups built out at the chest, and so many shaping seams. The construction is just unbelievable, and so incredibly flattering! Light shoulder pads round out the silhouette. The double-breasted shape make this a unique addition to any Mugler collection, and I adore the length: it's so easy to layer over pants and skirts, but it can also be worn as more of a dress. (It is shown on someone 5'7" here and will hit longer on someone shorter.) The trompe l'oeil "pocket square" detail is also so special, giving the appearance of a white handkerchief, which is actually attached. The pocket square, pinstripes, and double-breasted closure are a nod to classic menswear motifs, which Thierry Mugler loved to play with and juxtapose with ultra-feminine details.
