Jean Paul Gaultier is sometimes called fashion's enfant terrible, as he tends to break rules and has definitely found his own way of handling fashion. He was never schooled in couture but his sketches caught the eye of Pierre Cardin who hired him to design in 1970. He launched his first ready-to-wear collection in 1976 and founded his own couture house in 1997. His style seems to revolve around the beautification of the human figure, but also about giving that figure strength and power. This iconic early 1990's colorful print caftan jacket is a perfect example of his genius. I love the long, lean sleeves mixed with the draped construction. The jacket totally has an updated 1970's vibe and will work for any modern event. It is a masterpiece waiting to be worn.
