About the Item
Givenchy
Venerated French designer Hubert de Givenchy (1927–2018) made a splash with his first collection of mix-and-match separates in 1952, which launched his namesake fashion house, the clean lines and refined silhouettes of the pieces offering a contrast to the more structured shapes then dominating postwar women’s fashion. His roster of clients would eventually include Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, all of whom were drawn to the designer’s architecturally and materially simple pieces that combined sensual femininity with elegance.
At the age of 17, Givenchy left his hometown of Beauvais, France, for Paris. There he studied drawing at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and apprenticed for the houses of Jacques Fath, Robert Piguet, Lucien Lelong and Elsa Schiaparelli. Givenchy earned his first high praise for the 1952 Bettina blouse, an embroidered, ruffle-sleeve linen shirt named for his publicist and model Bettina Graziani. The Givenchy label soon developed a following of fashion icons around the world, most notably Audrey Hepburn, who would serve as Givenchy’s muse for decades after they met in 1953. The couturier created pieces for many of her films, such as the iconic little black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), as well as her personal life, including her wedding dress for her 1969 marriage to Andrea Dotti.
Givenchy formed a close friendship with his idol and mentor, Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga, with whom he’d popularize such pieces as the sack dress, choosing looser forms over tailored ones. Throughout the decades, Givenchy expanded his empire to include fragrances, menswear, accessories and beauty lines.
In 1988, his house was acquired by luxury conglomerate LVMH. After Givenchy retired from fashion in 1995, he became an antiques expert, working with Christie’s and the Louvre, among other institutions. The brand then saw an impressive succession of head designers and artistic directors: John Galliano was the first to arrive, followed by Alexander McQueen, Julien Macdonald, Riccardo Tisci, Clare Waight Keller and Matthew M. Williams. Today, the brand, with its timeless fashions, continues to be a favorite of A-listers, including Cate Blanchett, Erykah Badu, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.

- 1991 Jean Paul Gaultier Documented Cher Worn Black Velvet Corset Cage JacketBy Jean Paul GaultierLocated in Beverly Hills, CAOwn an iconic, well documented piece of fashion and celebrity history. This important, Jean Paul Gaultier black silk-velvet corset cage jacket, from his highly acclaimed 1990 fall-winter runway collection, was personally owned by his good friend Cher. This epic piece was worn by this iconic superstar to the 1991 Billboard Music Awards as she presented an award to fellow diva, Mariah Carey. Not only is the gorgeous jacket a masterpiece in design but it was created by one of the biggest names in fashion. Jean Paul Gaultier is described as an "enfant terrible" of the industry, known for his unconventional designs with motifs including corsets, marinières, and tin cans. Gaultier redefined the corset as a symbol of female liberation and empowerment. The fabric used for this jacket is sensational; the highest quality fully-lined ultra soft silk velvet. The front is designed to simulate a laced-up corset and is accented with black corded toggle style loops. The bare cut-out construction is so provocative and eye-catching. The waist has a center back belt for more of a nipped fit if desired. The lean, long sleeves mixed with the nehru collar also gives the jacket an elevated military vibe which I love. With Cher worn...Category

- Vintage 1989 Yves Saint Laurent Leopard Print Cotton Twill Trench Jacket w/TagsBy Yves Saint LaurentLocated in Beverly Hills, CAChic Yves Saint Laurent leopard print cotton-twill trench jacket from the infamous Rive Gauche collection during spring-summer of 1989. Pieces from this collection are very rare and are true examples of fashion history. I adore the cuffed-sleeves and front duel pockets. The jacket features hidden buttons and a sexy back-slit. It is wearable and comfortable, yet has its own iconic elements. The best part of all is, the trench is in mint never worn condition! "In the mid-1970s the relevance of haute couture was seriously debated. The political and social upheaval of the 1960s, the emergence of a plethora of creative ready-to-wear designers, and the increasing preference for a sportswear approach to dressing as represented by American fashion were among the shifts in lifestyles and taste that appeared to sound the death knell of the calcified and elitist world of the maisons de couture. It was at this time that Yves Saint Laurent, haute couture’s preeminent practitioner, threw caution to the prevailing winds with a collection of unrivaled fantasy and luxury."
