2004 Alexander McQueen Deliverance Runway Patchwork Skirt & Jacket Suit

About the Item

This outstanding Alexander McQueen 2004 two piece patchwork skirt and jacket suit is a perfect example of Lee McQueen's attention to detail and tailoring finesse. This rare ensemble is from McQueen's Spring Summer "Deliverance" runway show, which was based on dance marathon scenes from the 1969 Sydney Pollack film "They Shoot Horses Don't They." The movie takes place in the 1930's during the Great Depression, and features contestants who sign up for a dance marathon offering a $1,500 cash prize. The competition drags on for weeks and people eventually either drop out or expire. Mcqueen brilliantly re-interpreted these historic scenes with his modern fashion brilliantly, as only he could. The suit is impeccably made with hand stitched patchwork pieces that include men's shirting and a mix of polished and matte cottons. This was done just as it would have been in the 1930's during the depression, when people used a variety of materials on hand to make do. It's very rare to find both pieces together, so we were thrilled to find this complete outfit. We love the outstanding details including the intentional loose threads, small front slash pockets, unfinished button holes with buttons, and the raw hems on both pieces. The mermaid flared style hem skirt closes with side zipper and has a built in slip. The fitted jacket is fully lined and has elbow patches. The patches include checks, and stripes in shades of cream, taupe burgundy and Grey and the background fabric is a tonal cream. Made in Italy of 100% cotton and labeled a size 40. This is one that we keep finding more and more details the more we look at it. If you are a fan of vintage Alexander Mcqueen, this would be a fabulous edition to your collection. We estimate this to fit a modern day US size XS/S. Please refer to the measurements as a guide.
