About the Item
Joe Eula's career began with fashion illustrations in Town & Country magazine under the editorship of Nicolas de Gunzburg. His illustrations in the 1950s accompanied Eugenia Sheppard's column in the New York Herald Tribune and in American Vogue. When he saw Yves Saint Laurent's first show he described it "as a trip to the moon for fashion."
Joe Eula is an important part of the legacy Halston. He created many of Halston's ads, worked on the development of Halston's perfume with Elsa Peretti for Max Factor, designed the set for the infamous show of American designers at Versailles in 1973 and even created prints for Halston's collections. He also famously introduced Halston to Studio 54.
I was thrilled to be entrusted with these Joe Eula illustrations for Halston from the collection of Chuck and Candy Pratts Price. They completely capture the spirit and design of Halston's fashion, the glittering era of Studio 54, the brilliance of models like Pat Cleveland, Karen Bjornson and Halston's muse, Liza Minellli.
