About
This 17th-18th century Thai seated Buddha was made with painted teak. The Buddha is seated on a high black Stand in the « calling the earth to witness » position. This scene occurs during the Buddha’s enlightenment, when Sakyamuni calls the earth to witness as he resists to demon Mara’s assaults. The statuette displays Thai characteristics, such as a sharp headgear and a smiling face. The item showcases fine details like inclusions for the eyes. Thanks to its great dimensions and attention to detail, this 17th-18th century Thai antique painted teak seated Buddha would be an uncommon and impressive decorative item anywhere, and would be perfect in a den where its serenity would no doubt be a welcome presence.
