Natural Spinach Jade Animal Figurines from Qing Dynasty
About the Item
These lovely spinach jade animal figures consist of a Tang horse, an elephant, and a hippo. The largest is the Tang horse at 8cm x 6cm x 2.2cm, and the smallest is the elephant at 6.2cm x 5.2cm x 2.2cm. These animal figures were purchased from a collection that included museum quality Asian antiques such as a large Meiji period silk embroidered tapestry that can be viewed below under "More from this Seller".
The Tang horse is spinach and moss green and is rearing slightly with one foot elevated. The detailed carving of the mane, tail and trappings show lapidary skill and an eye for using colour to highlight and refine features. In Chinese culture, the horse represents one of the 12 signs of the zodiac and symbolizes wealth, power, courage, and integrity.
The hippo is 7.7cm x 4cm x 2cm and is primarily spinach green. It is standing on all fours with its mouth open wide. In some cultures, the hippo represents strength, power, and ferocity. The elephant is a mix of a lighter mottled and striated spinach green with a bluish hue and noticeable dark inclusions and symbolizes good luck and happiness.
This lovely set of jade figures would sit well in any Asian or Japandi decor while imbuing your space with symbolic meaning.
