Natural Spinach Jade Duck and Rabbit Figures from Qing Dynasty

About the Item

These lovely spinach jade animal figures consist of a rabbit and three ducks, the largest of which is the rabbit at 5cm x 4.2cm x 2cm. These animal figures were purchased from a collection that included museum quality Asian antiques such as a large Meiji period silk embroidered tapestry that can be viewed below under "More from this Seller". The rabbit figure is fashioned sitting on its haunches with its ears perked in an expression of alertness. It is mostly a deep spinach green with moss green highlights on the ears. The rabbit is an auspicious animal in Asian culture and is the fourth sign in the zodiac. The jade rabbit is also associated with the moon, a symbol of worship during the Mid-Autumn Festival (The World of Chinese, n.d). This year (2023) is the year of the rabbit, making this sweet jade figural a lovely gift for anyone born in this year. The duck figures are fashioned in varying positions and sizes with the largest being 8cm x 5cm x 2.5 cm and the smallest 4cm x 3.5cm x 2cm. Colours range from mostly spinach green to moss green and yellow which the lapidary used artfully in highlighting and refining features. The duck with its neck extended has a bluish hue with some darker inclusions. In Asian culture, ducks symbolize love, devotion, and loyalty and are often given as wedding gifts to promote a long-lasting harmonious marriage (Sweetish Hill, 2023).
