In the style of the East India Company - Qing Dynasty - 19th century China
In France Colbert, Comptroller General of Finance under Louis But it did not exploit this privilege so well that in 1698 it was sold to Mr. Jourdan de Groucé who renamed it Compagnie de la Chine and in the same year armed a frigate, the Amphitrite, which would make two voyages . The freight from the first voyage gave rise to a sale in 1700, which was a huge success and there were, among other things, 167 pieces of porcelain. The second trip took place between 1701 and 1703 and enjoyed the same success, leading to the birth of “Chinese taste” in France which would dominate interior decoration for around forty years.
After the death of Louis XIV, during the Regency, the financier Law, who wanted to develop commercial exchanges based on paper money, merged the Compagnie de Chine with others to create the Compagnie Perpetuel des Indes.
