Chinese Qing Large Craquel Glazed Porcelain Lidded Jar with Birds
About the Item
A large antique Chinese Qing porcelain jar and cover hand painted with birds amidst flowering shrubs dating from the 19th century. The large rounded bulbous jar stands raised on a round unglazed foot rim with a recessed base. The jar has a skirted lower body with a wide round upper body with a narrow short raised neck and with a hat shaped cover with central finial. The jar is hand painted in colored enamels with various butterflies and birds including magpies and ho-ho birds set amidst flowering prunus and other shrubs. The jar is painted with a formal border around the lower and upper body with floral sprigs and butterflies painted around the neck. The cover is similarly painted. The body of the jar and cover has a craquel glazed finish and the jar is not marked.
Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market.
