Green Blue Red Deep Charger by Japanese Duo Master Artists

About the Item

This unique deep charger/centrepiece showcases a dramatic scene of Tawaraya Sotatsu's influential "Wind God and Thunder God" that is considered a Japanese National Treasure. It is a pair of two-folded screens using ink and color on gold-foiled paper, depicting "Raijin," the god of lightning, thunder and storms with it's origin in the Shinto religion and Japanese mythology, and "Fujin," the god of wind. This dramatic scene at the center is surrounded by a powerful interpretation of storm and wind that streches to the outer edge of this impressive charger, decorated at the edge by an intricate geometric pattern. The reverse side of the charger is adorned by a scrolling foliage and flower pattern in blue on a pure white background. This contemporary decorative porcelain deep charger/centerpiece, intricately hand-painted in blue, red and green, is the joint creation of two brothers working in tandem in the Imari-Arita region of southern Japan. The two brothers who worked together to create this vase follow a strict division of labor. The older brother is responsible for depicting the fauna and flora, while the younger brother works exclusively on the background and on creating the intricate geometric patterns that grace the neck and base of the vase. The signatures of both brothers appear on the reverse. This stunning hand painted charger/centerpiece comes in a custom-made wooden case signed by both artists. Dimensions: D 13 in, D 2 in.
