Vintage Japanese Shigaraki pottery Mizusashi water pot for tea ceremony signed by Ueda Naokata in dripping natural ash glaze resulting in different earthy tones of crackled greenish grey to charcoal with black urushi lacquere lid coming in its original timber box.
Ueda Naokata (1899-1975) succeeded the name Naokata from his father in 1931. He was the first person named intangible cultural property of Shiga prefecture and his efforts revitalize traditional Shigaraki firing techniques are incalculabe. According to contemporary potter Kanzaki Shino, if you only know two post war Shigaraki artists, Naokata had better be one of them ( the other is Takahashi Rakusai...
