19th Century Painted Tibetan Cabinet

About the Item

This 2 panel cabinet is beautifully painted with a pair of dragons, vases and lotus blossoms adoring both the front doors. Both sides of the cabinet are painted with the same floral details as the front. The cabinet is hand carved and painted in the late 19 century. Cabinets like these were made from pine and would have been used to store ceremonial robes, important documentations, and scrolls. In Tibet, Dragons are believed to have symbolized power, creativity, heaven, and good fortune. They are believed to have authority over bodies of water, rain, floods, and storms. There is a wooden support inside the cabinet where a wooden shelf once sat, in which a shelf can still be added.
