French Second Empire Mahogany Writing Desk

About the Item

Mid 19th Century made by "MON. KRIEGER AMEBLEMENT-PARIS"; the Greek-key pattern, gold tooled black leather inset rectangular above a deep paneled frieze applied at the ends with lozenge shaped reticulated gilt-bronze plaquettes carved with Bacchic masks and chimera, the front with ribbon wreath and stylized fern leaves, each end fitted with a leather inset writing slide, the front is fitted with five drawers around a shallow kneehole and raised on square tapering supports ending in gilt-bronze square sabots; the lock plate fully stamped; manufactured by Antoine Krieger between 1826 and 1880 in Paris; a museum quality of striking beauty.
