Antique wooden bucket of Japanese lacquer craftsman/20th century/planter

About the Item

This is a wooden bucket used by Japanese lacquerware craftsmen to store lacquer. It is believed to have been used from the Meiji period to the first half of the Showa era (1868-1940). This tool is thought to have been used in the Tohoku region of Japan. The material is cedar or cypress, and the frame is made of bamboo. It's a cool, black bucket with a very wabi-sabi feel. As you can see in the first photo, there is ink writing on the cross. This is probably the mark of the store name. Also, since wooden barrels are made of dozens of thin sheets lined up and glued together, the adhesive has peeled off in several places on the wooden barrel, creating gaps. It will not be damaged. Please understand that this is an old item. Please use it as a planter cover or an object. These tools are now rare items, with only a few remaining. Weight: 3.6kg Few stores in 1stdibs carry such items. We sell with confidence.
