Large Japanese Bronze and Mixed Metal Vases By Masayuki

About the Item

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this most stylish high quality pair of Meiji Period (1868-1912), bronze and mixed metal vases artist signed by Masayuki. The main body of the vases comprise of a pair of opposing gilt lined panels, the first depicts a bird of prey sat upon a floral sprig whilst the second vase depicts a bird in flight above super quality chrysanthemums, the reverse of vase one depicts a small native bird in flight above flora and bears the silver signature seal, the reverse of vase two superbly picks out a mixed metal kingfisher upon a lotus pod in a lakeside setting.Each of these incredibly hefty vases are further decorated with a stylised damascened lower band inset with a gilt paulownia mon to one side and an Imperial chrysanthemum to the reverse, the foot band, lower sections and shoulders of each vase are further decorated with geometric damascened silver and stylised gilt decoration, each of the vases is adorned with a pair of side handles in the form of mythical beasts, the rims are finely decorated with a band of gold, a truly fine quality pair of Japanese mixed metal vases. Provenance : Previously supplied by ourselves and since in a USA private collection. Condition report: The condition is lovely with minor age related cleaning wear. Approximate sizes: Height: 12 3/4″ 32.5 cm Width: 8″ 20.5 cm inc handles Depth: 5 1/2″ 14 cm The vases are incredibly heavy for their size weighing in at approx 8.2kg the pair .
