19th Century Hardwood Red and Ebonized Carved Figural Two-Panel Screen

About the Item

The dual panel screens feature detailed carving on both sides and could be re-imagined as the most chic "barn door" imaginable by the creative designer. The figural hand carving, the hint of gilt detail and the animal and floral motifs cause this two-panel screen to stand out. They do not belong on a wall when this gorgeous pattern is visible on both sides. The panels feature an antique Chinese ebonized, carved, lacquer and parcel gilt finish. It is from the 19th Century. Hinged together at the center, each double-sided panel is designed in three parts, the upper and lower with relief carving of snakes/dragons and animals, the central panel with figures in a stylized landscape within a meandering (Greek-key style) border, with ring holders to the top. Each panel is 54 inches tall by 23 inches wide. There is some dust accumulation throughout, and some fading, and carving and surface losses.. Much of the original color has faded in intensity, but the screen still presents extremely well.
