Antique Japanese Kano school two fold screen with a well painted scene depicting a pair of 'shi-shi' Buddhist guardian lions in animated poses frolicking amidst a rocky landscape interspersed with white tree peony flowers, early Edo period, circa 17th century. Painted with ink and mineral pigments on a gold leaf ground and recently professionally remounted onto fresh backing papers in Japan using traditional methods. Materials: Ink, mineral pigments, gold leaf and paper with silk brocade borders. Dimensions: H 62cm x W 180 cm.
