Japanese Asian Signed Six-Panel Folding Byobu Showa Cherry Blossom Tree Screen

$4,500

About the Item

A gorgeous hand-painted six-panel Japanese Byobu folding screen depicting a blossoming cherry tree/ nature scene with a solitary pensive, serene bird in the branches. The deep, rich colors, gold leaf, complex design/composition, and beautiful hand-painted detail of the tree's trunk, branches, and budding flowers make this an attractive and special work. Signed in ink and sealed in red by the artist. Original decorative period brass hardware adds another wonderful touch. This screen came from a passed-down family Japanese/ Asian Byobu screen collection. We were told that their Grandmother acquired numerous screens over many years while living abroad. The family believed this screen was acquired by her in the 1950s. This gem of a screen is sure to stand out in almost any setting whether used as a room divider or hung on the wall as a work of art. A beautiful and unique work. Likely Showa period but perhaps older. Approximate dimensions when fully extended: 49.25" high, 97.5" wide, .75" deep. Approximate folded dimensions: 49.25" high, 17" wide, 4.25" deep.
