About the Item

A beautiful and brightly colored woodblock print by famed Japanese artist and Shin-Hanga master printmaker Kawase Hasui. This print, titled "Shinagawa" is from his series Selection of Views of the Tokaido (Tokaido fukei senshu). It was originally published in 1931 (This may be a later printing - 1930s/40s) and it depicts a landscape of a canal in rain with cloudy skies, a detailed bridge reflection in the waterway below and various people placed precisely in the composition to give the image its depth and complex design. The woodblock print is signed in black ink (signed Hasui) and sealed in red (sealed Kawase) within the lower corner of the image and was published by Watanabe Shozaburo. A very coveted and special image by Hasui. Would make a fantastic addition to any Japanese or Asian art/ print collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in about any setting. Hasui's work can be found in numerous prominent collections/museums including: Los Angeles County Museum of Art Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Harvard Art Museums Museum of New Zealand Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The print is matted and framed and ready to display. Framed dimensions: 19.75" high, 13.75" wide, .5" deep. Viewable image: 14" high, 9.5" wide.
