About the Item

A very beautiful, serene large Oban size woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Tsuchiya Koitsu titled "Nagoya Castle" from the artist's series "Views of Japan." Nagoya Castle was constructed by the Owari Domain in 1612 during the Edo period. The print depicts the famous castle's tower rising above a serene landscape scene of Spring cherry blossoms, with the setting sun casting a fading red glow on the distant horizon. It is a very picturesque image. The original print was made in 1937. This may be a later edition, perhaps created in the 1940s/50s. The print has the artist's signature and red seal in the lower right of the image. Tsuchiya Koitsu (土屋光逸, September 23, 1870 – November 13, 1949) was a renowned Japanese artist known for his exceptional woodblock prints depicting landscapes, cities, and traditional Japanese scenes. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian print/art collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting. The print is matted and framed and ready to display Frame dimensions: 17.5" high, 23.5" wide, .75' deep Viewable art: 17.5" x 11.5"
