About the Item
A beautiful image by renowned Japanese artist/printmaker Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861 ) titled "Saigyo-Hoshi (no. 86) 西行法師 (The Monk Saigyo) (The Monk Saigyo)" from his famous series "Series: Hyakunin isshu no uchi 百人一首之内 (One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets)." Kuniyoshi was born in Edo in 1797 and is universally considered one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school. Kuniyoshi's subjects covered many genres including landscapes, beautiful women, Kabuki actors, cats, and mythical animals.
