Chinese Lingzhi Fungus Table Screen Qing Dynasty '1644-1912'
About the Item
A lingzhi fungus table screen
Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
The unusual Chinese scholar’s object,
mounted natural dried and preserved lingzhi fungus.
Lobed asymmetrical outline with deep growth ridges
gives the object the desired natural look, so favored by Chinese literati.
The reversed side with a weathered wood still attached
to the fungus body, shows even more dramatic complex texture.
The whole object is lacquered preserving dark brown patina
and mounted on a hardwood stand.
Measures: 10 in.(25.5 cm.) long., 7 in.(8cm.) high, 2 1/2 in.(6.5 cm.) deep, fungus only.
In Chinese, the name lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum) represents
a combination of spiritual potency and essence of immortality,
and is regarded as the “herb of spiritual potency,”
symbolizing success, well-being, divine power, and longevity.
