Antique Burmese Alabaster Seated Buddha, Shan Style, 18th Century

About

The Buddha is seating in Padmasana (lotus) position, the right hand in bhumisparsha mudra, (calling the earth to witness his victory over the evil king Mara as approaching enlightenment) and the left in dhyana mudra (gesture of meditation), upon a lotus throne. This head has a smooth hairline and traditional elongated earlobes; with an onion-shaped ushnisha; serene face with arched eyebrow, eyes downcast in contemplation and smiling lips. Traces of lacquer can be found on the piece Shan style Burma Early 18th century. Measures: 40.5cm W x 23cm D x 68.5cm H.
