Damo Bodhidharma in Fragrant Camphor Wood
About the Item
This is a very special statue of the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma (Damo). A legendary Buddhist monk who is believed to be the saint who introduced Buddhism to China, Damo represents "dharma of awakening". He is depicted bald with beard of small curls, deep wrinkles symbolizing empathy for all the sufferings, a pair of very long eyebrows symbolizing longevity, with compassionate countenance. This unique piece is carved of solid camphor wood, whose natural fragrance and insect repellent ability makes it a prize wood for carving of important statues. Organic free form bodice resembling a long flowing robe with finely hand carved head and upper torso. One of a kind.
