About the Item

Portable altar in black lacquered wood, opening with two doors revealing the Goddess Benzaïten , eight-armed guardian of Buddhist principles. Representedwith feminine features, she is known as one of the Seven Divinities of Good Fortune. ( On her head, behind the Shinto door, is Ugajin, the serpent with a head of an old man, spirit of rice, water and food). Japan, Edo period (1603-1868).
