This is a very old Japanese wood carving of a monkey. It is a wood carving from the Meiji period (1860s-1900s). It appears to be carved from cedar wood. "Monkey holding a peach" Peaches have been a symbol of longevity and protection from evil since ancient times. The monkey is a messenger of the gods, both of which are considered to be very auspicious. It is said that a monkey holding a peach is a symbol of good luck. This is a very rare wood carving that brings good luck. Weight 300g.
