About the Item

This is an old Japanese concrete sphere, admired for the unique character it has acquired after decades of exposure to the elements. Its surface is lightly covered with moss, accented by traces of lime deposits and areas of partial flaking, giving this man-made object the appearance of something born from nature. These features quietly speak of the passage of time. Although the exact production date is unknown, the degree of concrete weathering and the way the moss has settled suggest it was likely made during the mid-Showa period (1950s–1970s). Its original use is uncertain, but it may have served as a garden accent or as a decorative architectural object. As light and shadow shift across its surface, its expression changes, imparting a quiet yet compelling presence to any space. Its form evokes the image of a distant planet, drawing the viewer into a sense of the extraordinary. This sphere embodies the Japanese spirit of wabi-sabi—where the artificial and the natural, the perfect and the imperfect, merge, and the changes brought by time itself are elevated into beauty. Weight: 24.5 kg ________________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
