Meiji Style Antique Teakwood Dragon 20th Century

About the Item

The year of the dragon shines an additional spotlight on this beautiful antique teakwood sculpture. The detail and the patina are amazing. The hand carved dragon takes on a lifelike quality in its coiled position, as though it is ready to unfurl. The piece is adorned with small rosettes and is unsigned and unmarked. This is from a collector in the South Bay area and you can see other examples from her collection in our offerings of snuff bottles, bowls, jars, a pair of tea cups, a teapot, a vase and a 19th century carved dragons and griffins rampant gilt hangar. The Japanese zodiac, like that of the Chinese includes a dragon. It is thought to symbolize power, honor, success and luck. This is a beautiful piece that will add to many decor themes.
