About the Item
An exceptionally rare pair of 1884 copper-plated lion andirons designed by Arthur Osborne for the Boston firm of Wellington & Burrage Household Art Rooms. While Osborne is more known for his work as head modeler for the Low Art Tile Company of Chelsea, Mass., his design work extended much further than simply tile. These andirons are featured on Plate XVII of the 1884 "Illustrated catalogue of Art Tiles made by J. G. & J. F. Low." Fully marked on the reverse.
