An andiron is a fireplace accessory. It is a piece of wood or metal often placed in pairs in a fireplace or hearth and used to support the logs, so that they do not smother the fire. It consists of an "easel" (horizontal bars often made of cast iron) finished with a decorative or functional element, the "andiron head".
