In place of the lion's ears they have a pair of horns, over shaped and molded mane, grotesque mask, the lion's body is serpentine shaped with prominent pair of large breasts, two-part feathered putti style wings, sculpted acanthus foliate skirt, terminating in hook-like scrolled tail. Measurements: (approx) Each: 7.5" high, 3.5" wide, 3" deep. Once part of a lavish ornamental building element, the architectural salvaged decorative fragments can be used a variety of different ways. The previous owner used small nails to mount / hang the to the wall. The possibilites are only limited by your imagination. Great condition overall, especially considering age. Presents splendidly, with nicely aged patina over the whole. Retaining remnants of original polychrome red paint to the verso. Heavily worn, naturally distressed finish, with expected signs of use, including wear, checking, and paint loss seen to the wooden and painted exterior throughout the collection, evidence of minor past repair of the wings, slight chips, losses, which are minor in nature, and do not detract from the overall display, but only add to the charming antique character, rustic warmth, and whimsical artistic depth.
