About the Item

A richly patinated English oak bucket from the 19th century, featuring a warm, dark finish and original brass fittings, including three broad brass bands and a hinged bail handle with turned ends. Distinctive in both form and function, the bucket is constructed in a traditional coopered fashion with a slightly oval profile, rising gently toward the sides. Inside sits a removable fitted liner in aged tin, complete with double strap handles, likely original to the piece. This versatile container was likely used in a hearth or scullery context, ideal for kindling, coal, or ash collection. Today, its size and shape lend it equally well to use as a decorative fireside accessory, umbrella stand, or even a rustic planter. Signs of age include minor oxidation to the interior metal and gentle wear to the oak, consistent with its utilitarian use and period. A fine example of 19th-century English craftsmanship with enduring visual appeal.
