About the Item

18th century French fireback with a Saint Andrew's cross and two pillars of Hercules. Saint Andrew is said to have been martyred on a cross in this shape. The cross is since then a sign for humility and sacrifice. The pillars of Hercules symbolize strength. They stand for the club of Hercules. The date of production, 1728, is also cast in the fireback. The style of the fireback is Louis XIV and it is from that period. The patina of the fireback is brown. The fireback can be made black / pewter on request. The fireback is in a good condition and does not have cracks.
