About the Item

Fire screens or grilles were first seen in the 18th century, designed to provide a barrier from sparks and rolling logs; they would be positioned in front of the mantel to protect the occupants and furnishings of the sitting room. Our fireplace grille with a central monogram was crafted from wrought iron in France, circa 1890. The center cartouche has a foliate monogram surrounded by an attenuated console. Roundels and small margents connect the ends of the console to the volutes, curves, and leaf cups that comprise the 55 ¼ inch long grille. Supported by four shapely feet on roller wheels, our wrought iron fireplace grille can be easily transported from room to room. The subtly arched top and the flared-out sides further accentuate the meandering curves and movement of the foliate motifs, giving the fireplace grille a beautiful appearance that will enhance any living room or study.

Large Antique Wrought Iron and Bronze Double Sided Lectern from France, 19th C.
Located in Dallas, TX
Known as a lutrin in France, this double-sided lectern is highly scrolled and pierced, making a unique and beautiful dais. The imposing French lutrin is comprised of wrought iron with some bronze embellishments (finials and roundel joineries) and dates to the 1800s, although the double-sided platform was added more recently based on the varying patina and welded construction (the bottom is pinned). An amazing, banded arabesque of scrolls and counter curves emanate from an open roundel, forming the double-sided slant-top platform. The platform is designed to swivel on a rod that runs through it; a ball finial tops the rod, flanked by a pair of Vitruvian waves that form a majestic crest. There is an arbalete edge that extends off both sides of the platform, providing a stable base for holding music...
