Antique Carved Oak Fire Mantel by Guéret Frères

About the Item

A beautiful antique carved oak fireplace by Guéret Frères. This elegant fire surround features deep, bold neoclassical style carving and intricate mouldings throughout. The corbels showcase foliage on thickly carved jambs. A striking statement feature for the main room of any period property. Stamped to the rear; GUERET FRES 246 RUE DE LAFAYETTE PARIS Guéret Frères, the cabinet making firm, was founded in 1853 and continued production until the end of the 19th century. From 1855 onwards, it exhibited regularly at international exhibitions and often won medals. They exhibited at the International Exhibitions of 1855, 1867 and 1878 specialising in all types of furniture in the traditional Louis XV and XVI styles. A finely carved cabinet by Guerét Fréres is in the permanent collection of the V&A, London (W. 17-1980). Guéret Frères based their designs on revivals of 18th-century and earlier styles.
