US Ambassadors Suite Marble Mantel Waldorf Astoria Hotel Green White

About the Item

This English Regency style mantel was preserved from the US Ambassador's Suite in NYC's Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Carved from green marble with white veining, this piece features fine white marble fluting inlaid into the apron and jambs - resulting in a stately architectural piece. The tiered shelf is underscored with a layer of matching white marble and finished with a slightly rounded edge. This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to room 42A3 - the first US Ambassador's Suite in history to be located in a hotel. Used as a residence, and also to entertain, the suite was located across the corridor from the unofficial NYC residence of the Duke of Windsor. A truly splendid design, this mantel accompanied a Jim Dine painting, an Alexander Calder mobile, and a grand piano. A Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase. Pictured still installed at the Waldorf Astoria, the original hearth is not included. Kindly confirm condition before purchasing. Please note, this item is located in our Scranton, PA location.
