Beauvais Oak Parquet Rusticated French Oak Block Flooring
By LASSCO Flooring
Located in London, GB
Square edged French oak parquet blocks with rusticated finish. The timber for these solid oak parquet blocks is carefully sourced from suppliers in the Normandy region of France for beauty and durability. Individual blocks are 50 cm long by 8.5 cm wide and 2.2 cm in depth. The word parquet derives from the Old French 'parchet' which means 'a small enclosed space'. The method was devised as a warmer and more serviceable alternative to elaborate domestic marble floors which required frequent washing with water that would damage the wooden joists beneath. The earliest instances of its use appear to be in the Bourbon palaces of La Trianon and Versailles in the late 17th Century. Necessity as ever has proved the mother of invention and there are now a great many different forms of parquetry panels to choose from, most named after the famous houses and palaces from which they originate. Price shown is per square metre. There is a lead time of 6 weeks on getting the timber to a shipper. Reclaimed wood flooring – installation guidelines A reclaimed wood floor is an asset for any property. Installed correctly and finished sympathetically, it will enhance the appearance and provide a durable and functional feature to last as long as the property stands. Any short cuts made throughout the installation process – from purchase of the floor to the final coat of finish – will affect the finished article in both longevity and durability, as well as lessening the intrinsic beauty that reclaimed wood floors provide. Traditional and antique wood floors...

Antique, New and Vintage Flooring

Carefully chosen antique, new and vintage flooring, while not usually considered a focal point, can play a huge role in designing how a space should look and feel.

Archaeologists have identified glazed brick tiles and polished stones on historic floors and other surfaces around the world. Some of the earliest known glazed bricks date to a 12th-century B.C. facade in Susa, in today’s Iran.

Whether you choose wide planks to contrast with your modern appliances in your farmhouse-style space or understated oak for a clean contemporary look, humble wood can play a starring role when it comes to flooring. Alternately, vintage tiles can be the “it” factor in your kitchen, bathroom, patio or bedroom. Gapless mosaics forming tessellations or complicated geometric patterns can provide a bold statement, and one doesn’t have to be polymath designer Gio Ponti, for example, to create dramatic floors with these tiles. (Ponti was arguably the most important figure in 20th-century Italian architecture and design, and diagonally patterned floors, meant to make rooms more dynamic, were a signature of his.)

Modern 21st-century flooring and new and made-to-order flooring come in many styles. However, choosing antique or vintage flooring or a unique pattern from innovative designers like Aimee Wilder can add an extra layer of charm and sophistication to an interior or other space.

On 1stDibs, find flooring to match a range of styles and tastes.
