About the Item

An unusual mid 19th century antique cast iron statue of a praying child, sourced from the property of the English author known as John le Carré. Beautifully cast, it is a charming ornament for a garden or sculpture for an interior. Made in several sections then leaded together, this statue depicts a child with locks of curling hair kneeling on a cushion with hands together and raised as if praying. The cast is further elevated by a weathered stone base. Over 150 years old, the entire piece has an attractive timeworn look, telling the story of its age and history. Provenance From the estate of the David Cornwell (1931 – 2020), better known by pen name, John le Carré. Regarded as one of the greatest authors of the post-war era, Cornwell wrote a series of espionage novels, many of which have since been successfully adapted for television and film.
