About the Item
Sculptural and unusual stone formations have long been fixtures of the Chinese scholars' studio, displayed as sources of beauty and creative inspiration. Known as scholars' rocks (gongshi), such stones were said to help focus the mind while composing poetry, painting landscapes, or writing calligraphy. This sculptural meditation stone is beautifully patterned with dense striations, swirling inclusions, and mottled coloring of rust, gold and green. Artisans have transformed the rough rock formation into a decorative sculpture, polishing the stone to accentuate its organic form.
