Unique Artwork Original 'Atomium' Panel World Expo 58 Brussel Belgium 2005
About the Item
This is an original panel from a marvellous piece of architecture build for the 1958 World Expo that was held in Brussel Belgium
from 2004 to 2006 a renovation of this landmark started and all the exterior aluminum panels where replaced
This panel has been rescued and turned into an artwork by 'Fred & Francine' in 2005
The 58 World Expo was an important event after world war II and all world countries displayed their latest technology, architecture, design and their bright look on the future ahead
The Atomium was designed by the engineer André Waterkeyn and architects André and Jean Polak. In the 1950s, faith in scientific progress was great and an atom structure was chosen to embody this
The Atomium consists of nine iron atoms in the shape of a cubic unit cell of an iron crystal, magnified 165 milliard times
Though the Atomium depicts an iron unit cell, the balls were originally clad with aluminium
By the turn of the millennium, the state of the building had become quite deteriorated and a renovation was needed. Renovation of the Atomium began in 2004
The renovations included replacing all the faded aluminium sheets on the spheres with stainless steel.

I taken this text from Serge Haelterman's website:
Right after I graduated as an Industrial designer back in 1999 I started a furniture brand together with my friend Steven Brouns. We felt there was a need for a new type of furniture that was able to adjust itself to the ever changing life situations. Hence the name Livingelements. The name JZUZ was conceived because we believed we had to spread the message of this new kind of living. The first elements were a u and a square shaped seating element. They were in fact a deconstruction of a regular sofa. This deconstruction led to a whole range of new possibilities. When combining both elements you could construct all kinds of different 'living' setups. After this followed the room devider...
