About the Item

A marble mortar resting in the original stand turned from a single piece of sycamore which is bound in iron at the top and bottom. The surface looks to be an old painted or whitewashed finish. In a fantastic, dry, country house condition. Provenance: Thurnham Hall, Lancashire. Some splitting evident on one side. Evidence of old pest damage underneath but now stabilized.
