About the Item
A distinctive pair of late 19th-century Continental jardinieres, likely French or Belgian in origin, combining richly grained walnut veneer with cast iron scrolled supports and original tôle metal liners. Each planter features a demilune form with molded top edge and skirted apron, supported by decorative wrought iron scrollwork and fluted uprights resting on shaped bracket feet.
These jardinieres reflect the transitional aesthetics of the late 1800s, with hints of Art Nouveau curvature and the material eclecticism typical of provincial workshops blending metalwork and fine cabinetry. The original green patina of the iron and weathered character of the wood and metal liners lend these pieces a striking architectural presence.
While currently in fair condition with visible surface losses, these pieces retain their decorative impact and offer excellent potential for conservation or use as sculptural planters, console accents, or vestibule décor.
