About the Item

An elegant and high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Saint Pons Marble and Ormolu urns. Each exceptional lidded urn is raised on a square Ormolu base with concave corners, and a berried laurel circular band surrounding the spiral fluted socle. The urns are supported by a pierced Ormolu mount decorated with richly chased acanthus leaves. The solid Saint Pons Marble urns display impressive and richly chased handles in the shape of bearded Satyrs with horns, grapes, and grape leaves in their hair. The Satyrs are connected by beautiful and finely detailed swaging floral garlands with charming vines, branches, grapes, and additional grape leaves. The rims display elegant pierced circular designs below the fitted and removable dome shaped lids with fine foliate and acorn finials.
