This is a basket with old Japanese paper pasted it.
Japanese paper colored with Bengala is pasted on a bamboo basket.
It is thought to be from the Meiji period.
The technique of superimposing Japanese paper on bamboo jars, etc., is said to be "Ikkan-bari".
It is said that it began about 400 years ago in Japan, and it has been used as a skill to use living tools for a long time.
Traces of long-term use, such as peeling of paint and paper scuffs, remain, and it harmonizes without feeling uncomfortable.
