About the Item

Ceramic Bowl from the "Athene" Series by Anna-Lisa Thompson for Upsala Ekeby This rare bowl, part of the "Athene" series designed by Anna-Lisa Thompson, was produced by Upsala Ekeby between 1950 and 1953. It features a beautiful motif of a young woman, depicted as a mermaid with flowing hair, accompanied by a fish and large leaves. The bowl showcases a graceful, curved shape and is finished with a stunning blue hare fur glaze, featuring varying hues from light blue to dark blue against a dark blue background. The rim of the bowl flows elegantly, enhancing its artistic appeal. Deeply stamped on the underside are the marks "1038," "A.L.T.," and "UE." The “Athene” series consists of 16 earthenware bowls and vases, characterized by their gently swelling forms and surrealistic motifs. This series reflects Thompson's signature style and remains one of her most celebrated works. Anna-Lisa Thompson (1905–1952) was a prominent designer for Upsala Ekeby in the 1930s to 1950s, and her work continues to be highly regarded in the world of ceramics. This bowl exemplifies her delicate artistry and innovation in design.
